A Skyrian pony on the dusty, ochre, and severe-weather-prone Skyros Island, located in the Aegean Sea.
The Skyros pony is a rare and ancient breed endemic to Greece and rumored to be the same breed depicted on the Parthenon frieze. Today, there are fewer than 300 left worldwide, and they are facing not only a changing economy but also a genetic bottleneck that could put them on the same path as other rare breeds before them: extinction.
Fifty percent of the proceeds from all sales of Skyros pony images will go directly to the Skyros Island Horse Trust, a nonprofit I volunteered at one summer and later profiled for The Christian Science Monitor.
